Osteopathy

A system of diagnosis and treatment that requires the Osteopath to have an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and biomechanics. The Osteopath uses this knowledge and a refined sense of touch (palpation) to form a diagnostic picture of their patient and then employs gentle manual techniques to ease areas of tension and restriction thus aiding the restoration of normal healthy function – Homeostasis.

“Homeostasis is the process by which every living thing makes continual adjustments to keep itself in a stable condition and function to the best of its ability” (P. Sneddon et al).

The gentle and integrative approach makes it a safe treatment even during pregnancy and for the very young or old. It may also benefit active people, by helping to ease areas of pain or tension, therefore allowing them to fully enjoy their sport and leisure activities.
